We chose this island because the idea of mixing culture with beautiful beaches was particularly appealing for some holiday romance. We arrived mid-afternoon so it made perfect sense to explore and drink in some of the history in the Old Town first.
It was moving into the evening when we finally stepped out. The sun was beginning to set, and the result; an intoxicating mellow, yellow glow that delightfully washed over everything as far as the eye could see.
We held hands and strolled through the cobbled streets taking in the beauty that was right before us.
It wasn’t long before we stopped at a quaint little coffee shop. It was like something you would see in one of those Harry met Sally kind of movies. You know, little rattan tables with glass tops complete with petite stainless-steel crockery and fabric napkins. The chairs almost miss matched with dated but fashionable cushions, all of which were different on every seat, but it was cute.
I ordered a latte—he had an espresso. We sat for fifteen minutes or so and then got up and continued on.
We walked through gloriously paved streets lined with beige brick high-rise buildings that were somewhat reminiscent of those found on Regent Street in London.
We crossed many a darling bridge too. There was so many of these small bridges dotted around. They were so little they literally crossed streams rather than rivers. It was so picturesque. So romantic…
